BOV Division 3: Attard, M’Skala join Mdina on top

Three teams lead the way in the BOV Third Division as Attard defeated Mdina Knights in a top-of-the-table clash and Marsaskala registered another win.

A goal by Gabriel Buttigieg on the 24th minute gave Attard a narrow win over Mdina at the Sirens Stadium. The Knights were therefore suffering the second defeat in three matches.

Denis Sytnik notched a hat-trick as Marsaskala beat Kalkara 3-0 at the Charles Abela Stadium. They took the lead on the 34th but had to wait until the 92nd minute to double the score, adding another thanks to a penalty a minute later.

Marsaxlokk registered a fourth consecutive win as they defeated St. Venera Lightnings 6-2 at the Luxol Stadium.

Abner dos Santos put Marsaxlokk ahead on the 11th and Jethron Azzopardi doubled the score on the 14th. John Paul Barbara made it 3-0 on the 26th but seven minutes later, Brandon Gafa pulled one back for the Lightnings. Abner dos Santos increased the lead once again five minutes from the end of the first half. Ryan D’Amato scored a fifth goal on the 73rd and five minutes later, Paul Paris made it 6-1 before Glenn Micallef reduced the gap for St. Venera eight minutes from time.

Santa Lucia beat Ta’ Xbiex 4-1 in another match at the Luxol Stadium. Christian Farrugia gave Santa Lucia an early lead on the 3rd. Mohammed Telessi Senussi doubled the score on the 12th, adding another on the 37th. Miguel Agius pulled one back for Ta’ Xbiex on 71 minutes but Diego Cucciardi struck late to give Santa Lucia a 4-1 win.

Mtarfa claimed their first points as they beat Luqa St. Andrew’s 3-2 at the Sirens Stadium. Shaun Peplow and Omar Smeir gave Mtarfa a two-goal lead on the 10th and 26th respectively but goals by Ramon Bugeja on the 50th and Greg Marney on the 77th restored equilibrium. However Omar Smeir notched the winner one minute in added time to hand Mtarfa their first win.

In another match at the Charles Abela Stadium, Ghaxaq maintained a two-point lead over Dingli Swallows as the two teams shared the spoils in a goalless draw.

Mdina, Attard and Marsaskala lead the way with 15 points, followed by Marsaxlokk on 13, Santa Lucia 12, Ghaxaq 11, Dingli 9, Luqa 6, St. Venera 5, Kalkara, Ta’ Xbiex and Xghajra 4 and Mtarfa 3.
