Hamrun Spartans moved to just three points behind leaders Gzira United in the BOV First Division thanks to a 2-0 win over St. George’s in one of three matches in programme on Monday.
At the Victor Tedesco Stadium, Haruna Garba Zambuk put the Spartans ahead on the 14th and Alan Tabone converted a penalty three minutes from the edge of the first half to double the score.
Rabat Ajax returned to victory as they beat San Gwann 4-1. Aidan Azzopardi put Rabat ahead on the 20th and Dylan Falzon doubled the score on the 26th. Deep into added time, after Rabat goalkeeper Jamie Azzopardi suffered a concussion, Aidan Azzopardi made it 3-0. Seven minutes in the second half, Wayne Borg scored the Magpies’ fourth goal before Felix Udoh scored a consolation goal for San Gwann on 61 minutes.
Meanwhile at the Centenary Stadium, Lija Athletic registered a fifth win in six matches as they beat Zebbug Rangers 2-0. Erjon Beu was the hero for Lija with goals on the 50th and 68th.
Gzira lead the way with 20 points, followed by Hamrun on 17, Senglea 16, Lija 15, Pietà 14, Zebbug and Rabat 13, Melita 12, Vittoriosa 11, Fgura 8, St. George’s, Mqabba and San Gwann 5 and Gudja 4.
