BOV Division 2: Two matches abandoned and one postponed

Two matches were abandoned by the referee and another one was postponed due to waterlogged pitches in the BOV Second Division on Sunday.

At the Sirens Stadium, Marsa vs Kirkop United was abandoned on the 30th minute with the score still goalless while at the Luxol Stadium, Mellieha vs Qrendi was abandoned on the 27th minute with the score 0-0. The second match in programme at the Luxol Stadium between Birzebbuga St. Peter’s and Gharghur was called off by the referee as the pitch was unfit to host the game.

The other three matches, however, went on as originally scheduled with Sirens, Zejtun Corinthians and Zabbar St. Patrick claiming the three points.

Sirens found no difficulty in beating Zurrieq 6-0 at the Sirens Stadium. Giovanni Galea put Sirens ahead on the 17th and Daniel Cremona doubled the score on the half-hour. Just before half-time, Giovanni Galea made it 3-0, adding another three goals after the break on the 62nd, 82nd and 89th.

Zejtun Corinthians made a great comeback from two goals down to beat Mgarr United 3-2 at the Charles Abela Stadium. Mark Abela put Mgarr ahead four minutes in the second half and Lazar Doric doubled the score three minutes later. Jair Nelson Escobar Ortiz reduced the gap on the 55th and Adrian Pulis equalised on the 62nd. owever in added time, Adrian Pulis was on target once again to give Zejtun the three points.

In another match, Zabbar St. Patrick defeated Msida St. Joseph 2-0. An own goal by Miguel Grech put Zabbar ahead on the 56th minute and Justin Felice doubled the score on the 77th.

Sirens lead the way with 24 points, three ahead of Gharghur and Marsa, who both however have a game in hand. Zabbar and Zejtun are joint-fourth on 19, followed by Siggiewi on 16, Birzebbuga 15, Mgarr 14, Kirkop and Mellieha 12, Qrendi 10, Swieqi 9, Msida 4 and Zurrieq 3.
