Joint-leaders Sirens and Marsa registered wins on Saturday but Gharghur lost the pace as they suffered a 1-4 defeat to Zabbar St. Patrick in the BOV Second Division.
Zabbar St. Patrick, in fact, brought Gharghur’s positive run of six matches to an end as they defeated them 4-1 at the Sirens Stadium. Muda Fagbeja put Gharghur ahead on the 10th but five minutes from the end of the first half, they had a player sent off and Zabbar were awarded a penalty which was converted by Jean Claude Cesare. Justin Felice put the Saints ahead seven minutes in the second half and added another seven minutes later with Julio Cesar Martins Souza sealing the issue with a fourth goal on the 61st.
New signing Timothy Thomas notched a hat-trick for Marsa as they defeated Msida St. Joseph 5-0 at the Luxol Stadium.
Marsa scored four in the last ten minutes of the first half. Timothy Thomas opened the score on the 35th, Gilbert Martin doubled the score two minutes later, Thomas added another on the 39th and Cleavon Frendo made it 4-0 on the 43rd. Timmy Thomas scored the fifth and final goal on the 57th.
Sirens beat Qrendi 2-1 at the Charles Abela Stadium courtesy of a brace by Ryan Sciberras on the 45th and 67th with Luke Scorfna notching the temporary equaliser in added time before the end of the first half.
Lesley Cassar Jackson gave Birzebbuga St. Peter’s a narrow win over Zejtun Corinthians at the Charles Abela Stadium.
Swieqi United returned to winning ways as they beat Kirkop United 1-0 at the Sirens Stadium to join the latter on the 12-point mark. Daniel Calleja Cremona scored the all-important goal on 63 minutes.
At the Luxol Stadium, Siggiewi and Mellieha shared the spoils in a goalless draw.
Marsa and Sirens lead the way on 27 points, followed by Gharghur on 24, Zabbar 22, Zejtun 19, Birzebbuga 18, Siggiewi 17, Mgarr 15, Qrendi and Mellieha 13, Kirkop and Swieqi 12, Zurrieq and Msida 4.
