BOV Women’s League: Hibernians move eight points clear

Champions Hibernians moved another important step towards securing the thirteenth BOV Women’s First Division title after beating Pembroke Athleta 7-0 on Wednesday while second-placed Birkirkara were held in a 1-1 draw by Mgarr United. The Paolites therefore move eight points clear.

Mid-way through the campaign, Hibs claimed maximum points from the ten matches played in the first two rounds. Their nearest rivals, Birkirkara, lost the two games against the Paolites apart from Tuesday’s draw with Mgarr.

Mgarr are currently third on 15 points, followed by Raiders (Luxol) on 9, Kirkop United 8 and Pembroke Athleta 1.

In the BOV Women’s Second Division, leaders Gozo registered nine wins in as many matches. They are followed by Swieqi United on 22 points, Hamrun Spartans on 18 and Sliema Wanderers on 16.

In the lower part of the table, Tarxien Rainbows are on the 6-point mark, followed by Mosta on 5 and Kirkop United Team B on 1.

Meanwhile in the Women’s Under-16 League, the end of the first phase is fast approaching. Gozo, Tarxien Rainbows and Mgarr United share the top spot on 22 points but Tarxien have a game in hand. Birkirkara are fourth on 21 points, followed by Hibernians on 17.
