Paolites seek revenge as they hope to close in on leaders

Champions Hibernians hope to move to just one point behind leaders Valletta as they take on Mosta in one of the two BOV Premier League matches in programme on Sunday at the National Stadium.

The Paolites bounced back from the defeat to Valletta just before the Christmas break with a 2-1 win over Pembroke Athleta last week and another three points on Sunday would put them close to the leaders once again after the Citizens were held in a draw by Tarxien on Saturday.

Mosta, on the other hand, aim for a positive result after defeats to Birkirkara and Balzan in their last two outings.

Against Hibernians, Mosta welcome back Onyekachi Okonkwo while Godwin Mensha should make his debut after joining the club from Balzan. Hibs, on the other hand, could not count on the suspended Bjorn Kristensen while Jorginho, Rui da Gracia Gomes and Jurgen Borg are all in doubt as they are recovering from injuries.

In the first round, Mosta defeated Hibernians 4-1.

Meanwhile in the second match, Sliema Wanderers face Floriana. The Greens are eager to return to winning ways after a shock 0-3 defeat to Tarxien last week. They now share the fourth place with the Rainbows following the latter’s draw with Valletta.

The Wanderers won three out of the last four matches but are still eighth, eight points behind the Greens.

Matthew Calleja Cremona is ruled out for Floriana as he serves a one-match ban and therefore new signing Matthew Grech could make his debut. Jurgen Pisani is ruled out injured.

Floriana defeated Sliema 3-0 in the first round.
