Birkirkara sign Croatian striker

Birkirkara continued to strenghten their squad with the signing of another Croatian player – twenty-six year old striker Matija Smrekar.

A Croatian youth international at all levels from Under-16 to Under-21, Smrekar started his career at NK Zagorec Krapina before moving to Varteks Varazdin. In summer 2010, he was transferred to Sedan in France. He later played for RSC Charleroi in Belgium, NK Maribor and NK Zavrc in Slovenia and CS Pandurii Târgu Jiu in Romania.

Smerkar is the fifth Croatian player to join the club since the appointment of Drazen Besek as new coach after the signing of goalkeeper Miroslav Kopric, defender Christian Bubalovic, midfielder Mislav Andelkovic and striker Goran Mujanovic.

The club has also signed Matthew Guillaumier and Edison Bilbao Zarate.
