Mdina Knights came from behind to beat Luqa St. Andrew’s in one of the six BOV Third Division matches in programme on Saturday. The Knights move joint-second with Marsaskala, two points behind leaders Marsaxlokk, who however have a game in hand.
At the Charles Abela Stadium, Mdina beat Luqa 2-1. Justin Muscat put Luqa ahead on the 16th but Daniel Cluett equalised on the 36th and Andrea Spiteri notched the winner on the 72nd.
Marsaskala missed the chance to join the leaders as they only managed to earn a point in a 1-1 draw with St. Venera Lightnings at the Luxol Stadium. Ryan Grech put the Lightnings ahead on the 21st but the Southseasiders notched the equaliser one minute from time through Claudio Pace.
Two late goals by Royter Degiorgio gave Xghajra Tornados a 2-0 win over Attard at the Charles Abela Stadium. Degiorgio put Xghajra ahead on the 77th and doubled the score three minutes in added time.
Santa Lucia defeated Dingli Swallows 3-2 at the Sirens Stadium to join them in fifth place. Gilbert Camilleri scored twice on the 12th and 21st to put Santa Lucia two goals ahead and Mohammed Telessi made it 3-0 on the 40th. Dingli reduced the gap through Matthew Borg on the 68th and Karl Cilia ten minutes from time.
Ta’ Xbiex returned to winning ways as they defeated Mtarfa 3-0. Matthew Fenech put Ta’ Xbiex ahead on the 40th, Riccardo Napoli doubled the score on the 55th and Yaya Turay sealed the issue with a third goal on the 74th.
In another match at the Luxol Stadium, a goal by Daniel Zahra on the 53rd and a penalty by Florin Anton on the 69th gave Ghaxaq a 2-0 win over Kalkara.
Marsaxlokk lead the way with 29 points, followed by Marsaskala and Mdina on 27, Attard 25, Dingli and Santa Lucia 23, Ghaxaq 20, Luqa 16, Xghajra 15, St. Venera 14, Kalkara 10, Mtarfa 8 and Ta’ Xbiex 7.
