Gzira United dropped two points as they could only earn a point in a 2-2 draw with Mqabba at the Centenary Stadium on Sunday. A draw which puts the Maroons just one point ahead of Hamrun Spartans in the BOV First Division table.
Ian Zammit put Gzira ahead on the 21st but five minutes later, Claudio Calleja levelled matters. Five minutes in the second half, Arilson Mello da Silva made it 2-1 for Mqabba but Karl Pulo restored equilibrium six minutes later.
Senglea Athletic and Pietà Hotspurs continue to share third place after both registered wins at the Victor Tedesco Stadium.
The Hotspurs defeated bottom-placed Gudja United 2-1 while Senglea Athletic came from behind to beat Melita 4-1 thanks to a hat-trick by Audgustine James Obaje and a goal by Denis Sytnik after Michael Cachia had put the Amateurs ahead.
Vittoriosa Stars and Zebbug Rangers shared the spoils in another match at the Centenary Stadium.
Gzira lead the way with 37 points, followed by Hamrun on 36, Senglea and Pietà 28, Lija 22, Fgura 21, Vittoriosa and Rabat 20, Melita and Zebbug 19, Mqabba 16, St George’s and San Gwann 10, Gudja 8.
