BOV Division 3: Mdina, Attard close in on Marsaxlokk

Mdina Knights and Attard moved to just one point behind leaders Marsaxlokk as the Southseasiders lost to Ghaxaq in the BOV Third Division on Sunday.

At the Charles Abela Stadium, Ghaxaq came from behind to beat Marsaxlokk 4-2. John Paul Barbara put Marsaxlokk ahead on the 16th minute but Florin Anton levelled matters on the 28th. Marsaxlokk regained the lead through Paul Paris on the 56th but an own goal on the 70th restored equilibrium. Eric Zammit made it 3-2 for Ghaxaq and Florin Anton sealed the issue with a fourth goal two minutes later.

Attard moved second thanks to a 3-1 win over Kalkara at the Luxol Stadium. Andrew Agius put Attard ahead on the 9th minute but a Jacob Camilleri penalty restored equilibrium on the 25th. However another penalty, this time converted by Andrew Agius on the 31st restored the lead for Attard with Jean Claude Cachia sealing the issue with another goal seven minutes in the second half.

Mdina Knights share the second place with Attard but missed a good opportunity to take sole leadership as they were held in a 2-2 draw by Mtarfa at the Sirens Stadium. Joseph Munjao Mwema put Mtarfa ahead on the 34th, Kurt Farrugia equalised on the 75th, Daniel Cilia made it 2-1 for Mtarfa five minutes from time but four minutes later, Kurt Farrugia levelled matters once again.

Yenez Emre scored on the 20th minute to give Santa Lucia three important points in a win over Xghajra Tornados at the Sirens Stadium while a goal by Joshua Sciarrino on the 18th minute gave Dingli Swallows a narrow win over Marsaskala at the Charles Abela Stadium.

St. Venera Lightnings were held in a 2-2 draw by Ta’ Xbiex at the Luxol Stadium. Robert Micallef put St. Venera ahead on the 17th but an own goal on the 25th and a Joel Felice strike on the 31st turned the score in Ta’ Xbiex’s favour although Danijel Vasic restored equilibrium on the 79th.

Marsaxlokk lead the way with 29 points, followed by Mdina and Attard on 28, Marsaskala 27, Dingli and Santa Lucia 26, Ghaxaq 23, Luqa 16, Xghajra and St. Venera 15, Kalkara 10, Mtarfa 9 and Ta’ Xbiex 8.
