Stripes look to end disappointing run

Following a draw with Floriana and back-to-back defeats to Balzan and Hibernians, Birkirkara will be all out to return to winning ways as they take on Mosta in one of the two BOV Premier League matches in programme on Sunday at the National Stadium.

After Floriana beat Naxxar on Saturday, the Stripes fell into fifth place but a win would put them back into fourth place, two points behind third-placed Balzan.

Mosta won just one of the last eight matches and are coming from an entertaining 3-3 draw with Pembroke Athleta in their last outing. They are currently joint-seventh on 15 points.

Nikola Vukanac and Mauricio Mazzetti are ruled out injured for Birkirkara. Mosta, on the other hand, will be without the suspended Onyekachi Okonkwo but Dyson Falzon should be back after missing the last few games.

Following a 1-1 draw in the first round, Birkirkara defeated Mosta 3-0.

Meanwhile leaders Valletta take on St. Andrews in a top-bottom clash. The Citizens won ten out of the last eleven matches and lie one point behind Hibernians following the Paolites’ comfortable win over Qormi. St. Andrews, on the other hand, registered a win and two draws after losing the first nineteen matches.

Valletta coach Paul Zammit is not expected to have any selection problems with Abdelkarim Nafti returning in squad after recovering from an injury. For the Saints, defender Eloy Edu Nkene is unavailable.

In the first two rounds, Valletta defeated St Andrew’s 3-0 and 4-0.
