BOV Division 1: Gzira move three points clear

Gzira United moved three points clear on top the BOV First Division as a goal by Raphael Alain Kooh Sohna late in the game gave them a narrow win over Zebbug Rangers at the Centenary Stadium.

Hamrun Spartans, on the other hand, earned a point in a draw with Senglea Athletic at the Victor Tedesco Stadium. Aud-Gustine James Obaje put Senglea ahead on the 41st minute with Saturday Nanapere levelled matters for Hamrun twenty minutes from time.

Meanwhile San Gwann and St. George’s both collected precious points in the battle against relegation.

San Gwann defeated Gudja United 3-1 while St. George’s beat Melita 3-2.

At the Victor Tedesco Stadium, goals by Marc Attard on the 15th and Alain Bati Abehanga five minutes later gave San Gwann a two-goal lead and Ryan Zammit converted a penalty on the 69th to increase the lead. Didier Sohna scored a consolation goal for Gudja three minutes later.

At the Centenary Stadium, Gaetano Gesualdi put St. George’s ahead on the 27th minute but Antoine Attard levelled matters on the 42nd minute. Lucky Omeruo made it 2-1 for the Cospicua side on teh 51st but Antoine Attard scored again on the 59th to equalise. However a goal by Kenneth Abela six minues from time handed St. George’s the three points.

Gzira lead the way with 46 points, followed by Hamrun on 43, Senglea 32, Pietà 31, Lija 24, Vittoriosa, Rabat, Mqabba and Fgura 23, Zebbug and Melita 22, San Gwann 17, St. George’s 15 and Gudja 8.
