BOV Division 3: Battle for promotion intensifies

Leaders Marsaxlokk stay three points clear of second-placed Mdina and Santa Lucia with Ghaxaq moving fifth behind fourth-placed Attard in the BOV Third Division.

At the Luxol Stadium, Marsaxlokk scored three in the second half as they beat Mtarfa 3-0. Manuel Caruana put them ahead one minute after the break and a brace by Alain Pierre Courtadon on the 73rd and a penalty on the 80th handed Jeffrey Mifsud’s side the three points.

Santa Lucia registered a most dramatic win as a goal five minutes in added time by Gilbert Camilleri enabled them to beat Marsaskala 1-0 at the Luxol Stadium. This was the fifth consecutive win for Santa Lucia and the third defeat in four matches for Marsaskala.

Mdina Knights defeated Xghajra Tornados 2-0 at the Sirens Stadium thanks to goals by Dylan Mintoff on the 58th and Jason Good on the 61st.

Attard defeated Ta’ Xbiex 2-1 at the Charles Abela Stadium. Jurgen Gerada gave Attard the lead on the 31st and although Matthew Fenech equalised ont he 71st, Andrew Agius scored for Attard deep into stoppage time to hand them victory.

Ghaxaq found no difficulty to beat St. Venera Lightnings 4-0 at the Charles Abela Stadium to register a fifth consecutive win. Bjorn Dalli put Ghaxaq ahead on the 25th and six minutes from the end of the first half, Noel Tabone doubled the score. Dalli added another two goals on the 72nd and 78th.

In another match, Kalkara brought a disappointing run of eight consecutive defeats to an end as a goal by Jacob Camilleri on the 64th minute gave them a narrow win over Luqa St. Andrew’s at the Sirens Stadium.

Marsaxlokk lead the way with 38 points, followed by Mdina and Santa Lucia on 35, Attard 34, Ghaxaq 32, Dingli and Marsaskala 30, Luqa 16, St. Venera and Xghajra 15, Kalkara 13, Ta’ Xbiex 11 and Mtarfa 9.
