BOV Division 1: Gzira, Hamrun score five

Leaders Gzira United and second-placed Hamrun Spartans kept marching on in the BOV First Division as they both registered comfortable wins on Saturday.

Louis Rene Zome and Carlos Montes Zuniga scored two goals each as Gzira defeated San Gwann 5-0 at the Centenary Stadium. Following a goalless draw, Zome scored twice on the 56th and 58th to put the Maroons two goals ahead. Zuniga made it 3-0 five minutes from time and three minutes later, Brooke Farrugia added another. Zuniga increased the lead further deep into stoppage time.

Hamrun Spartans defeated nine-man Rabat Ajax 5-0 at the Victor Tedesco Stadium. Haruna Garba put the Spartans ahead on the 25th minute and just past the hour, Saturday Nanapere doubled the score. Rodney Refalo converted a penalty on the 73rd to make it 3-0. Substitute Trevor Cilia scored a fourth goal eleven minutes from time and two minutes later, Jake Grech increased the lead further.

A goal by Miguel Ciantar on the 10th minute gave Senglea Athletic a narrow win in the derby against Vittoriosa Stars at the Victor Tedesco Stadium.

Mqabba moved further away from the danger zone thanks to a 3-0 win over Melita at the Centenary Stadium. Arilson Mello da Silva put Mqabba ahead on the 11th minute. Goran Adamovic doubled the score just befor half-time and one minute in the second half, Paul Chimezie added another for Mqabba.

Gzira lead the way with 50 points, followed by Hamrun on 47, Senglea 38, Pietà 34, Mqabba 29, Lija 27, Vittoriosa and Fgura 26, Zebbug 25, Rabat 23, Melita 22, San Gwann 17, St. George’s 15 and Gudja 8.
