The Atalanta Academy was launched on Monday at the Marsaxlokk Football Ground. The academy is the result of a partnership between Marsaxlokk FC and Atalanta BC.
Thanks to this agreement, the Marsaxlokk nursery is now the only local nursery forming part of the Italian club’s academy and any young footballer willing to train with Atalanta BC would require the approval of Marsaxlokk FC. Two Italian coaches will be at the disposal of Marsaxlokk throughout the season.
Among the speakers for the launch were Atalanta BC grassroots coordinator Dott. Stefano Bonaccorso, the technical director for the south of Italy Claudio Lucchini, the local technical director Gaetano Farruggio and Marsaxlokk FC secretary Joseph Mifsud.
Parliamentary Secretary for Research, Innovation, Youth and Sport Chris Agius praised this initiative thanks to which the Maltese could gain experience from Atalanta BC while giving local youths greater opportunities.
