BOV Division 2: Gharghur promoted, Zurrieq relegated

Gharghur will be playing in the First Division next season as Muda Fagbeja scored two late goals in a 2-0 win over Birzebbuga St. Peter’s at the Charles Abela Stadium in one of the six BOV Second Division matches in programme on Saturday.

Second Division top scorer Fagbeja opened the score on the 82nd minute and doubled the lead three minutes in added time.

Marsa beat Kirkop United 2-0 in another match at the Charles Abela Stadium thanks to goals by Benjamin Ayuba on the 11th minute and Timothy Thomas on the 90th.

Zabbar St. Patrick found no difficulty in beating Msida St. Joseph 7-0 at the Sirens Stadium. Justin Felice put Zabbar ahead on the 6th minute and Shalon Diacono doubled the score three minutes later. Jean Claude Cesare made it 3-0 on the half-hour and two minutes from half-time, an own goal put Zabbar four goals ahead. Anthony Bonello added another on the 65th minute with Dylan Micallef increasing the lead on the 83rd and Damon Bonello converting a penalty five minutes from time.

Zejtun Corinthians and Mgarr United shared the spoils in a 1-1 draw at the Luxol Stadium. Margeith Scicluna put Zejtun ahead after just one minute but Jonathan Ebejer rescued a point for Mgarr two minutes from time.

Qrendi and Mellieha earned a point each in a 2-2 draw at the Luxol Stadium. The Sky Blues therefore took the point they needed to retain their status. Bjorn Bondin put Qrendi ahead on the 3rd but Mellieha equalised thanks to Isaac Fenech on the 45th. A penalty by Luca Casha restored the lead for Qrendi eleven minutes in the second half but Wayne Borg St John levelled matters thirteen minutes from time.

Siggiewi and Swieqi United shared the spoils in a goalless draw at the Sirens Stadium. A result which condemns Zurrieq to Division 3.

Gharghur lead thw way with 53 points, followed by Marsa and Sirens on 51, Zabbar 45, Siggiewi 39, Mgarr 37, Zejtun 35, Birzebbuga 33, Qrendi 32, Mellieha 28, Swieqi 20, Kirkop 19, Zurrieq 13 and Msida 5.
