Youth League: Second consecutive title for Hibernians

After the last round of matches from Sections A to D, the last matches from Section E on Monday brought the Youth League 2015/16 to an end.

In Section A, Hibernians won a second consecutive championship after finishing top-of-the-table ahead of Balzan. The Paolites lost just one game throughout the season, also dropping point in five draws but still finished seven points clear of Balzan. Hamrun Spartans and San Gwann were relegated to Section B.

Vittoriosa Stars won Section B after an impressive campaign to win the section with a comfortable lead ahead of runners-up Sliema Wanderers who therefore make a return to Section A. Msida St. Joseph and Zejtun Corinthians will be playing in Section C next season after finishing in the bottom two places.

In Section C, Zebbug Rangers were crowned winners ahead of Lija Athletic. Fgura United and Santa Lucia were, on the other hand, relegated to Section D.

Kirkop United won Section D ahead of Dingli Swallows who were also promoted to Section C. Xghajra Tornados and Zurrieq were relegated to Section E.

Siggiewi, on the other hand, won Section E. St. George’s ended as runners-up after finishing just one point ahead of Marsaxlokk. Qrendi and Marsaskala finished in the bottom two places.

Meanwhile three of the Youth Knock-Out quarter-finals were played this week.

Sliema Wanderers defeated Vittoriosa Stars 2-1 after extra-time in a clash between two Section B sides. In a clash between two teams from Section A, Floriana defeated Balzan on penalties. Birkirkara, on the other hand, beat Mosta by the odd goal on five.

In the semi-finals, Sliema Wanderers take on Floriana while Birkirkara will be meeting Marsaxlokk who had defeated Mgarr United 5-0 in another quarter-final which was played last month.
