Do-or-die clash for Hibernians

Hibernians will be all out to claim the three points on Sunday as they take on Birkirkara in a do-or-die clash for the Paolites in their bid to retain the title.

Lying four points behind leaders Valletta, Hibs would move back to just one point behind the Citizens before the two teams cross swords in the final league match – a match which would determine the title. On the other hand, should they only earn a point from the Birkirkara game, they would end three points behind the leaders and in the final league game, the Paolites would have to win in order to force a championship decider.

A defeat to Birkirkara would hand the 2015/16 BOV Premier League title to Valletta.

Hibernians have a fantastic unbeaten run of fifteen matches and are coming from three consecutive wins over Floriana, Tarxien and Balzan.

Birkirkara, on the other hand, held Valletta in a goalless draw last week and reached the semi-finals of the FA Trophy after defeating Floriana 2-0. A positive result on Sunday would put them closer to securing third place in the table.

Hibs and Birkirkara shared the spoils in a 1-1 draw in the first round but the second round clash ended in a 2-0 win for the Paolites. In the Super Cup, Hibs beat Birkirkara 2-1.

Meanwhile in the first match, Floriana will be aiming to bounce back from two disappointing results as they face Mosta. Following their impressive win over Valletta, the Greens were immediately brought down to earth as they lost 2-3 to Pembroke Athleta in their last league match and 0-2 to Birkirkara in the FA Trophy.

Mosta, on the other hand, returned to winning ways last week as they beat Tarxien 1-0 after suffering four consecutive defeats.

Floriana’s Nicolas Chiesa and Matteo Piciollo and Mosta’s Osa Guobadia are ruled out through suspension.

Mosta defeated Floriana 2-1 in the first round but Floriana won 1-0 in the second.
