Evolution Gaming Summer Cup 2016 launched

The fourth edition of the St. Andrews Summer Cup was launched on Wednesday at the Luxol Sports Club. This year’s edition, which will be sponsored by Evolution Gaming, will take place between Monday 25th July and Sunday 7th August at the Luxol Stadium.

Apart from hosts St. Andrews, taking part in the tournament are Premier League champions Valletta, FA Trophy winners Sliema Wanderers, Mosta, Pembroke Athleta and First Division side Sirens.

St. Andrews, Mosta and Valletta will be playing in Group A while Pembroke Athleta, Sliema Wanderers and Sirens would be playing in Group B.

St. Andrews president Jason Falzon said this tournament helps teams prepare for the upcoming season and attracts a lot of interest since it gives the respective coaches an opportunity to try out new players, both local and foreign. He said that for a team, taking part in a tournament provides more serious preparation rather than friendly matches as there was something to fight for.

Falzon thanked sponsors Evolution Gaming as he said that it was only thanks to such sponsors that local clubs can survive and try to improve their game.

Throughout the tournament, coaches will be able to make as many substitutions as they wish.

In the semi-finals, extra-time will be played with the golden goal rule and penalties if necessary.
