Luke Gambin set to join Leyton Orient

luke-gambinMalta international midfielder Luke Gambin is set to join Leyton Orient from Barnet.

In a statement on the club’s official website, Barnet announced that Gambin had been placed on the transfer list, and that the club have accepted a bid in excess of £100,000 from Leyton Orient for the player. It went on to say that Luke has been the subject of interest from a number of League One and League Two sides over the past few weeks.

The club had offered the winger a new contract but it had been rejected by the player’s agents, who would like to see him move on or leave on a free transfer at the end of his current deal.

Chairman Tony Kleanthous said “Luke has been a fantastic servant to the club, but we have been told in no uncertain terms that he does not want to sign a new contract. This has affected our preparations for the season, so we felt that we should act quickly. Once agents become involved we have little choice other than to try and secure the best fee we can, so we have agreed this deal with Leyton Orient. The player will need to agree his terms with the club.”

Gambin started his career in the youth team of AFC Wimbledon and joined Barnet in the summer of 2010. He spent time on loan with Isthmian Premier Division side Metropolitan Police and Hendon. In five years at Barnet, he played 115 matches, scoring eleven goals.
