Valletta take on rivals Floriana, hoping to return to winning ways

BOV-Premier-LeagueChampions Valletta take on eternal rivals Floriana in one of the two BOV Premier League matches in programme at the National Stadium on Wednesday.

The Citizens dropped their first points on Saturday as they were held in a 2-2 draw by Balzan and are therefore eager to return to winning ways in order to stay on top of the BOV Premier League table which they share with Balzan. Floriana won their first two fixtures against Pembroke and St. Andrews but then suffered back-to-back defeats to Balzan and Tarxien. Therefore the Greens are hoping to bounce back with a positive result to upset their rivals and move back on track.

Valletta welcome back Claudio Pani after serving a two-match ban but Roderick Briffa is ruled out injured. Clyde Borg serves a one-match ban for Floriana.

Meanwhile in the first match, St. Andrews take on Sliema Wanderers.

The Wanderers lost their first three matches but registered a 2-1 win over Birkirkara to bring their positive run to an end. Against St. Andrews, they seek a second win to climb out of the lower part of the table.

The Saints collected three points in four matches following defeats to Birkirkara, Floriana and Hamrun and a narrow win over Tarxien Rainbows. Last weekend, they managed to take the lead but the Spartans turned defeat into victory with three goals.

Ante Bakmaz will be back for St. Andrews after a one-match ban. On the other hand, Italian goalkeeper Giuseppe Sarao is in doubt for the Wanderers after leaving the pitch injured on Sunday.
