BOV Division 1: Marsa collect precious points

Marsa collected three precious points in a clash between two teams from the lower part of the table in the BOV First Division as they returned to winning ways by defeating Zebbug Rangers 2-1 at the Centenary Stadium on Saturday.

Gilbert Martin put Marsa ahead on the 21st minute and although an own goal three minutes in the second half levelled matters, Luis Andre Melo de Lima notched the winner five minutes from time.

In another match, Vittoriosa Stars defeated Rabat Ajax 5-2. Obinna Obiefule converted a penalty to put Vittoriosa ahead on the 8th minute and Ryan Previ doubled the score on the 21st. Ryan Micallef reduced the gap two minutes later and thirteen minutes in the second half, Chris Vella levelled matters. Vittoriosa took three minutes to regain the lead thanks to another goal by Obiefule. Leighton Grech made it 4-2 on the 71st and Emmanuel Mbong sealed the issue with a fifth goal three minutes from time.

Naxxar lead the way with 28 points, followed by Lija and Qormi on 24, Vittoriosa, Senglea and Mqabba 22, Pietà 18, Sirens 17, Melita and Marsa 15, Zebbug and Rabat 13, Fgura 11 and Gharghur 9.
