After slipping to 183rd last month, Malta retained the same place in the FIFA/Coca-Cola World Ranking for the month of January.
The national team is ranked 51st among the other European countries. Just ahead of Malta are FYR Macedonia (162), Moldova (164) and Kosovo (166, down 1). Lying behind Malta are Liechtenstein (188, up 1), San Marino (202), Andorra (203) and Gibraltar (205).
Malta will be in action next March in a World Cup qualifier against Slovakia, although a friendly match could also be scheduled in March.
Meanwhile with only 12 full international matches played since the final ranking of 2016, there are few big changes in the January edition of the FIFA/Coca-Cola World Ranking. The top 34 positions remain unchanged with Argentina, Brazil and Germany still holding first, second and third place respectively.
