Second-half goals hand Gzira fine win over Birkirkara

Gzira United scored twice in the second half as they registered their second win, defeating Birkirkara 2-0 at the Centenary Stadium on Saturday.

Much more was expected from the Stripes as they continue to chase their first win after earning a point from their first game against Floriana. On the other hand, the Maroons continued where they had left in the clash with Lija and with another fine performance, managed to earn another three important points.

Both sides had three changes from their first outing as Matthew Guillaumier, Carlos Alberto and debutante Ernest Webnje N’For replaced Jake Grech, Luke Montebello and Alex Nilsson for Birkirkara while Roderick Briffa, Amadou Samb and new signing Sem Ogolong Kamana replaced Andre White, Juan Corbalan and Zack Scerri.

Gzira managed to break the deadlock on the 68th minute when Samba Tounkara, served by Karl Pulo, beat Philip Schranz with a diagonal shot from the left.

Ten minutes from time, Amadou Samb doubled the score with a close-range header following a cross from the right by Zack Scerri.
