Wanderers make it three wins in a row

Sliema Wanderers made it three wins in a row as they defeated hosts Hamrun Spartans 1-0 at the Victor Tedesco Stadium on Monday. A win which puts them back in joint-fourth place along with Floriana and Hibernians.

For the Spartans, this was the third defeat in five matches. A defeat which leaves them in joint-seventh place along with Birkirkara.

The Wanderers scored the all-important goal on the 18th minute when they were awarded a penalty after Philip Chircop handled the ball inside the area and although Matias Muchardi’s effort from the penalty spot was partially saved by Jake Galea, Albanian attacking midfielder Frenci Qeros placed the ball at the back of the net off the rebound.

Hamrun were reduced to ten men on the 63rd minute when Guilherme Batata was sent off after receiving a second yellow card.
