BOV Division 3: Comfortable wins for Sta. Venera, Mellieha and Mdina

Sta. Venera Lightnings and Mellieha move five points clear of Xghajra Tornados and Kirkop United in the BOV Third Division after they registered identical wins on Saturday.

At the Charles Abela Stadium, Sta. Venera Lightnings scored four in the second half to beat Ghaxaq 4-0. Chris Vella put the Lightnings ahead on the 69th minute and five minutes later, Luca Bugeja converted a penatly to double the score. William Camilleri made it 3-0 on the 78th with Eddie Wileman adding another three minutes in added time.

Mellieha defeated Dingli Swallows 4-0 in another match at the Charles Abela Stadium courtesy of Jonathan Cutajar, a brace by Jeffrey Gauci and a goal by Jean Scholey.

At the Sirens Stadium, Marsaskala registered their first win as they came from behind to shock Kirkop United beating them 2-1. Michael Theuma put Kirkop ahead on the 6th minute but Matthew Gauci levelled matters on the 17th and the same player made it 2-1 on the 63rd.

On the other hand, Mdina Knights beat Mtarfa 4-0. Mark Saliba gave Mdina a two-goal lead as he scored on the 13th and 32nd with Julien Iwueke making it 3-0 five minutes from the end of the first half with Stefi Cale adding another on the 67th.

Sta. Venera and Mellieha lead the way with 18 points, followed by Xghajra and Kirkop on 13, Mdina 12, Msida 9, Ghaxaq, Zurrieq and Dingli 7, Mtarfa 6, Marsaskala 4 and Ta’ Xbiex 3.
