Futsal: Luxol edge past Hamrun

Luxol defeated Hamrun Tre Angeli 5-4 in last weekend’s big match from the Gatorade Futsal League.

Player-coach Frane Despotovic scored one of the goals for Luxol, who had Glenn Bonello and goalkeeper Matthew Xerxen sent off, with Andy Mangion, Rogerio dos Santos Filho, Celino Alves and captain Mark Zammit scoring the other goals. Luxol had to suffer two players sent off, as Glenn Bonello received the second yellow card and goalkeeper Matthew Xerxen was shown the red card.

Late in the game, the posts denied Florin Anton from equalising. Luke Stivala scored two of Hamrun’s goals with Aleksander Tomin and Everton da Silva Santos scoring the other two.

University of Malta returned to the winning ways as they beat Tarxien JMI 8-3 while Swieqi United defeated Marsaskala 5-0. Swieqi United Under-21 registered their first win, defeating Junior College 13-2 while Pietà Nordiska lost 1-7 to Mriehel ESS. Meanwhile leaders Valletta maintained their perfect record with a 6-0 win over Qormi.

Earlier this week, Hamrun Tre Angeli returned to victory, defeating Marsaskala 6-1 to move third. An own goal and goals by Aleksander Tomin, Florin Anton, Clive Calleja, Manuel Jesus Cespedes Gallardo and Luke Stivala handed Hamrun the three points with Reuben Degabriele scoring a consolation goal for Marsaskala.

Mriehel ESS continued to impress with a 9-3 win over Qormi. Tarxien JMI beat Swieqi United U21 for 12-2 while Swieqi United’s senior team thrashed bottom team Junior College with a 12-1 score.
