After winning three points earlier this week after winning a protest against the result of the game against Marsaxlokk, Siggiewi closed in on the top two teams as they collected the three points in a 3-2 win over Luqa St. Andrew’s at the Luxol Stadium in one of the four BOV Second Division matches in programme on Saturday.
Trayo Grozev put Siggiewi ahead on the 17th and twelve minutes in the second half, Gillmour Azzopardi doubled the score. Gabriel Buttigieg pulled one back on the 67th but Roderick Spiteri restored the lead for Siggiewi a minute later. Wayne Busuttil reduced the gap once again for Luqa on the 74th.
In another match at the Luxol Stadium, Mgarr United came from behind to beat Attard 2-1. Jurgen Gauci put Attard ahead six minutes from the end of the first half but Kenneth Aquilina equalised on the 63rd and Lazar Doric notched the winner ten minutes from time.
Kalkara defeated Fgura United 2-1 at the Sirens Stadium. Dylan Xuereb put Kalkara ahead six minutes from time and although Cleavon Frendo converted a penalty to level matters four minutes later, three minutes in added time, Justin Felice notched the winner for Kalkara.
Ronnie Celeste was a five-goal hero for Birzebbuga St. Peter’s as they returned to winning ways as they defeated Marsaxlokk 5-2 in another match at the Sirens Stadium. Celeste put them ahead on the 10th minute and added another two on the 22nd and 33rd to give them a three-goal lead by half-time before increasing the lead further with goals on the 62nd and 72nd. Alan Tabone converted a penalty on the 87th and Pablo Doffo scored another in added time to reduce the gap for Marsaxlokk.
Swieqi lead the way with 23 points, followed by Kalkara on 22, Siggiewi 19, Gudja, Santa Lucia and Fgura 16, Birzebbuga and Mgarr 15, Marsaxlokk 14, Luqa 7, Attard 6, St. George’s 4 and Gharghur 2. St. George’s had two points deducted.
