BOV Division 2: Gudja close in on Swieqi after winning direct clash

A goal by Adolphus Nagbe Marshall on the 20th minute gave Gudja United three precious points as they defeated leaders Swieqi United 1-0 at the Sirens Stadium in one of the four BOV Second Division matches in programme on Sunday.

This win – their fourth consecutive one – enables Gudja to join Kalkara, Santa Lucia and Siggiewi in second place, just one point behind leaders Swieqi.

In another match at the Sirens Stadium, Marsaxlokk registered a most comfortable 6-0 win over St. George’s. Trevor Cilia opened the score on the 11th minute and Alan Tabone converted a penalty on the 23rd with Antoine Barbara adding another four minutes later. Cilia scored the fourth goal on the 31st and three minutes later, Alan Tabone scored Marsaxlokk’s fifth. Eight minutes in the second half, Tabone was on target once again.

Luqa St. Andrew’s came from behind to beat Attard 2-1 at the Luxol Stadium. Bledi Alla put Attard ahead seven minutes in the second half, Dylan Attard equalised on the 67th and five minutes later, Greg Marney made it 2-1 for Luqa.

In another match at the Luxol Stadium, Mgarr United and Birzebbuga St. Peter’s shared the spoils in a 2-2 draw. Chris Saliba put Mgarr ahead on the 6th minute and although Didier Sohna equalised three minutes in the second half, Lazar Doric made it 2-1 for Mgarr four minutes later. However seven minutes from time, Jean Claude Cassar rescued a point for the Saints.

Swieqi lead the way with 23 points, followed by Gudja, Kalkara, Santa Lucia and Siggiewi on 22, Marsaxlokk 17, Fgura, Birzebbuga and Mgarr 16, Luqa 10, Attard 6, St. George’s 4 and Gharghur 1. St. George’s had two points deducted.
