Santa Lucia and Siggiewi moved on top the BOV Second Division table as they registered important wins in two of the four matches in programme on Saturday.
Santa Lucia defeated Birzebbuga St. Peter’s by the odd goal in five at the Sirens Stadium. Sebastian Perdomo converted a penalty to put Santa Lucia ahead on the 24th minute and Andre Joe Cutajar doubled the score eight minutes later. A Keith Muscat penalty reduced the gap for Birzebbuga on the hour but John Nwoba made it 3-1 on the 85th with Keith Muscat converting another penalty for Birzebbuga in added time.
In another match at the Sirens Stadium, Siggiewi defeated Attard 2-0, courtesy of an Ian Montanaro brace – a goal on the 23rd and a penalty nine minutes from time.
Gudja United moved third thanks to an impressive 5-1 win over Kalkara at the Luxol Stadium. Anthony Ewurum put Gudja ahead on the 5th minute and Christian Cassar doubled the score on the 21st. Timmy Thomas pulled one back nine minutes in the second half when he converted a penalty. Ewurum made it 3-1 on the 61st, adding another six minutes later from the penalty spot. Firas Aboulezz converted another penalty six minutes from time for Gudja’s fifth goal.
In another match at the Luxol Stadium, Fgura United defeated Mgarr United 4-3. Lazar Doric gave Mgarr an early lead, putting them ahead on the 8th minute but Thomas Grech equalised on the half-hour and two minutes from the end of the first half, Gilbert Martin made it 2-1. Two minutes in the second half, Thomas Grech scored a third goal with Justin Zammit adding another on the 62nd. Mgarr reduced the gap with goals by Lazar Doric on the 65th and Daniel Vassallo on the 90th.
Santa Lucia and Siggiewi lead the way with 27 points, followed by Gudja on 26, Swieqi 25, Kalkara 23, Fgura 21, Birzebbuga 20, Marsaxlokk 19, Mgarr 18, Luqa 14, Attard 10, St. George’s 5 and Gharghur 2.
