Under-17 national team on training camp in Italy

The Malta Under-17 squad will be playing two friendly matches against the youth side of Italian club Frosinone during a short training camp being held in Italy later this week.

This five-day training camp is part of the Malta U-17s’ build-up for the 2018/19 UEFA European Under-17 Championship qualifying round. The Malta U-17s face Austria, Slovenia and Bulgaria in Group 3 with the mini-tournament to be staged in Slovenia this coming October.

Malta Under-17 coach Noel Turner and his assistant Ronald Vella are taking a squad of 21 players for the short training camp. The friendly matches against the Frosinone youths are scheduled for Friday (June 15) and Sunday (June 17), both kicking off at 17.00.

The squad selected by Turner features several players who represented the country in the UEFA Youth Development Tournament, played at the Centenary Stadium earlier this year. The Malta U-16s had claimed first place in that tournament after winning all their matches against Andorra, Gibraltar and Liechtenstein.
