After a break due to the national team’s commitments against Kosovo and Azerbaijan and the Malta Under-21 side’s final two qualifiers against Hungary and Cyprus, the BOV Premier League will be back on Friday as bottom-placed Senglea Athletic take on leaders Gzira United and Qormi face St. Andrews. Both matches will be played at the Centenary Stadium, kick-off at 18:00 and 20:15 respectively.
Gzira will be aiming at extending their unbeaten record to seven matches with a sixth win to stay clear of the other challengers. Having won their last four matches, they will be aiming for a fifth consecutive win. So far, they dropped their only points in a draw with Hamrun.
Senglea, on the other hand, lie at the bottom of the table with just one point following a draw with Pietà. They suffered two heavy defeats in their last outings, losing 1-5 to Valletta and 1-4 to Floriana.
Meanwhile in the second match, St. Andrews hope to continue to build up on their impressive 2-0 win over Birkirkara by beating Qormi. The Saints are currently fourth from bottom and lie on the six-point mark, two ahead of Qormi. The win over the Stripes was their first win in several weeks after suffering four consecutive defeats.
Qormi, on the other hand, are eager to return to winning ways after collecting just one point from the last five matches following a draw with Pietà. In their last outing, they lost 0-1 to leaders Gzira.
Tensior Gusman and Gaetano Gesualdi are ruled out for Qormi as they serve a one-match ban.
