FA Trophy: Xekwija Tigers hit six past Mqabba

First Division sides Lija Athletic, Marsa, Pembroke Athleta and San Gwann all made it to the third round of the Malta FA Trophy but Mqabba suffered a heavy defeat to Gozitan side Xewkija Tigers as more matches from the second round were played on Saturday.

At the Kercem Ajax Stadium, Xewkija Tigers defeated Mqabba 6-1. Daniel Bogdanovic converted a penalty on the 10th minute to put Xewkija ahead and Claudio Antunes Pavilidis converted another on the 26th. Claudio Antunes made it 3-0 on the half-hour and increased the lead further on the 58th. Shaun Bajada scored a fifth goal on the 66th and although Gianfranco Micallef pulled one back five minutes later, Bajada made it 6-1 eight minutes from time.

At the Sirens Stadium, Jean Pierre Mifsud Triganza scored a hat-trick in just four minutes between the 61st ad 64th as Pembroke Athleta defeated Second Division side Sta. Venera Lightnings 3-0.

Lija Athletic beat Second Division side St. George’s 4-0 at the Luxol Stadium. Erjon Beu put Lija ahead on the 15th, Dylan Mintoff doubled the score on the 33rd, Andrea Azzopardi made it 3-0 on the 40th and one minute in added time, Leejoe Schembri added another.

In another match at the Luxol Stadium, San Gwann defeated Second Division side Mgarr United 2-1 thanks to goals by Jan Tanti on the 26th and Rafael Ledesma five minutes later with Kenneth Aquilina scoring a consolation goal on the 71st minute.

At the Sirens Stadium, Marsa beat Third Division side Gharghur 5-1. Mark Gauci gave Marsa the lead on the 15th minute and four minutes later, Rafael de Fex Mariaga doubled the score. Shawn Bonello pulled one back on the 28th but Marlon Farrugia made it 3-1 on the 66th with Melvin Busuttil converting a penalty on the 69th and Larken Friggieri adding another six minutes later.
