Hibernians close in on Gzira

Hibernians moved to just two points behind leaders Gzira United after defeating Mosta 4-0 at the Centenary Stadium on Saturday.

The Paolites therefore registered a fifth consecutive win while for Mosta, this was the fourth consecutive defeat and the fifth defeat in six matches.

Mosta had three changes following the heavy defeat to Valletta as Maycon dos Santos Goncalves, Renan Abner de Oliveira and Jurgen Grech replaced Kei Hirose, Misael Miranda Gomez, Ndiaye Falou Samb. Hibs, on the other hand, had their typical formation with no players injured or suspended.

Taylor Nicolas Correa Marcolino put Hibs ahead on the 21st when he received an assist by Jurgen Degabriele, rounded a defender and hit past Vella.

Tiago Adan Fonseca doubled the score on the 37th when he headed the ball home off a cross by Joseph Mbong.

Hibernians extended the lead on the 66th thanks to Bjorn Kristensen, served by Degabriele, whose powerful drive gave the Mosta custoidan no chance.

Four minutes from time, the Paolites missed a good chance when they were awarded a penalty after Dexter Xuereb fouled Degabriele inside the area but Tiago Fonseca’s effort hit the upright.

However substitute Fernando Costa Tenorio Guttiner made it 4-0 on the 90th with a low shot from the edge of the area.
