Melita and Fgura United both scored five as they registered comfortable wins in the BOV Second Division at the Luxol Stadium on Saturday.
Melita defeated Mellieha 5-1 thanks to goals by Isaac Zammit on the 9th, Emilio Cornago San Pedro on the 24th and a Luke Mifsud hat-trick – on the 34th, 80th and a penalty on the 93rd. Fabian Axisa scored a consolation goal for Mellieha on the 61st.
In another match, Fgura United defeated Luqa St. Andrew’s 5-2. Goals by Gilbert Martin on the 5th, Thomas Grech on the 8th and Martin once again on the 9th gave Fgura a three-goal lead within the first nine minutes. Greg Marney pulled one back on the 14th but Andrew Scicluna made it 4-1 on the 28th. Ryan Sell increased the lead on the 61st but Lydon Sciberras scored a second goal for Luqa on the 74th.
Mgarr lead the way with 25 points, followed by Fgura on 22, Rabat, Birzebbuga, Melita and Marsaxlokk on 20, St. George’s 18, Zabbar 10, Sta. Venera 9, Mellieha 8, Siggiewi 7, Kalkara 6 and Luqa 5.
