BOV Division 2: Rabat, Birzebbuga and Marsaxlokk close in on leaders

Rabat Ajax, Birzebbuga St. Peter’s and Marsaxlokk moved to just two points behind leaders Mgarr United as they registered wins in matches from the BOV Second Division on Sunday.

A goal by Kurt Muscat on the 58th minute gave Rabat Ajax a narrow win over Siggiewi at the Luxol Stadium.

Marsaxlokk defeated Sta. Venera Lightnings 3-1 at the Victor Tedesco Stadium. Timothy Thomas put Marsaxlokk ahead on the 31st and then doubled the score a minute later. Ronnie Celeste made it 3-0 on the 35th with Mohammed Telessi scoring a consolation goal for the Lightnings eleven minutes from time.

St. George’s came from behind to beat Zabbar St. Patrick in another match at the Victor Tedesco Stadium. Andre Joe Cutajar put Zabbar ahead on the 29th minute but Anthony Ewurum equalised on the 52nd and Nicholas Zammit notched the winner on the 68th.

In another match at the Luxol Stadium, Birzebbuga St. Peter’s defeated Kalkara 1-0 thanks to a goal by Andrea Sant on the 26th minute.

Mgarr lead the way with 25 points, followed by Rabat, Birzebbuga and Marsaxlokk on 23, Fgura 22, St. George’s 21, Melita 20, Zabbar 10, Sta. Venera 9, Mellieha 8, Siggiewi 7, Kalkara 6 and Luqa 5.
