Birkirkara registered a third consecutive win as they defeated bottom-placed Senglea Athletic 2-0 at the Hibernians Stadium on Sunday. A win which enables the Stripes to move fifth, one point behind Sliema Wanderers and two ahead of Balzan and Hamrun Spartans before the latter two take on Hibernians and Valletta respectively in the two big matches on Monday.
Senglea, on the other hand, remain at the bottom as they suffered a fifth consecutive defeat. They had two changes from the team which lost with an identical score to Hibernians as Imanol Gonzalez and Zachary Cassar replaced Matthew Bartolo and the suspended Leighton Grech.
Birkirkara, on the other hand, had Mislav Andelkovic and Michael Mifsud replacing Petar Orlandic and Carlos Chavarria.
The Stripes maanged to take the lead on the 13th minute thanks to Cain Attard following a well-taken corner by Jake Grech.
Jake Grech doubled the score four minutes in the second half as he hit home from close range following a cross by Marcelinho.
