Leaders Hibernians take on Valletta in big match

Leaders Hibernians take on Valletta in this weekend’s big match from the BOV Premier League at the National Stadium on Sunday, kick-off at 16:00.

The Paolites are unbeaten in ten matches and lie one point ahead of Gżira United and three ahead of Valletta. They won nine out of the last ten matches, dropping their only points in a draw with Balzan.

The Citizens, on the other hand, dropped just five points from the last twelve matches – in a draw with Gżira and a defeat to Hamrun. A win against Hibernians would enable them to join them on top.

Two players are set to make their debut – Antonio Monticelli for Valletta and Marco Sahanek for Hibernians. Valletta defender Steve Borg is suspended as he serves a one-match ban.

Hibernians defeated Valletta 2-1 in the first round.

Meanwhile in the first match, kick-off at 14:00, Qormi take on Balzan.

Qormi are coming from eleven consecutive defeats, including last week’s 0-4 defeat to Senglea Athletic in a clash between two teams who were sharing the bottom spot. Against Balzan, they can only hope to make life difficult for their opponents.

Balzan are currently seventh on 24 points and a win would put them in fifth place, on level points with Hamrun. They won just two out of the last seven matches and were held in three draws out of the last four matches.

Making his debut for Balzan will be Steve Pisani who joined the club from Floriana earlier this week.

In the first round, Balzan defeated Qormi 4-2.
