A controversial penalty awarded by referee Ishmael Barbara and converted by Giovanni Galea just before half-time ensured Fgura United stay on top the BOV Second Division as they defeated Rabat Ajax 1-0 at the Luxol Stadium on Sunday.
Marsaxlokk kept the pace with Fgura as they came from behind to register a most dramatic 3-2 win over Mellieħa in another match. Jonathan Cutajar put Mellieħa ahead on the 15th and Luke Mallia doubled the score on the 27th but Ryan Cauchi reduced the gap on the 66th and a brace by Timmy Thomas on the 75th and 82nd handed Marsaxlokk the three points.
Fgura lead the way with 31 points, followed by Marsaxlokk on 30, Mgarr 29, Birzebbuga 28, Rabat 27, St. George’s 25, Melita 23, Sta. Venera 13, Siggiewi 11, Zabbar 10, Mellieha 9, Luqa 8 and Kalkara 7.
