FC Zbrojovka Brno won the Tipsport Malta Cup after defeating Slovak Super Liga leaders ŠK Slovan Bratislava of Slovakia 3-0 in the final at the National Stadium on Monday. First-half goals by Šumbera, Bariš, and Pavlík gave the Czech second division side a surprise win.
In the semi-finals, Slovan Bratislava had defeated FK Mladá Boleslav 2-1 thanks to goals by Šporar and Čavrič with Fulnek scoring a consolation goal for the Czech side while Zbrojovka Brno beat FK MAS Taborsko 2-0, courtesy of Vrastil and Skoda, in a clash between two Czech second division clubs.
On Wednesday and Thursday, the four visiting clubs faced local clubs in friendly matches.
FC Zbrojovka Brno defeated Hibernians 3-1 in the first match on Wednesday. Leandro Barbosa put Hibernians ahead just past the half hour but goals by Bartolomeu on the 61st, Magera (pen) on the 74th and Přichystal on the 86th turned the score in Zbrojovka’s favour.
Floriana came from behind to beat MAS Taborsko 2-1 in another match. Martin N’Gimbi put the visitors ahead on the 5th minute but Daniel Agius equalised on the 18th and Tiago Galvao da Silva notched the winner six minutes later.
In the first match on Thursday, Balzan and FK Mladá Boleslav shared the spoils in a goalless draw.
On the other hand, Gżira United lost 3-4 to Slovan Bratislava. Vasil Bozikov put Slovan ahead on the 4th minute and Boris Cmiljanić doubled the score on the 17th minute. The Maroons hit back with goals by Sofian Domoraud on the 20th and Gianmarco Conti on the half-hour. Moha restored the lead for Slovan a minute later but just before the end of the first half, Rodolfo Soares made it 3-3. Nono notched the winner nine minutes from time.
