Sliema Wanderers appoint new coach

Sliema Wanderers have appointed Stefano Maccoppi as their new coach.

Maccoppi will be assisted by Ivan Woods who led the team for the last two matches following the sacking of John Buttigieg.

A product of Como, Maccoppi played for Rhodense, Sambenedettese, Ancona, Bari and Piacenza. He started his coaching career with Piacenza at youth level and then moved to Fiorenzuola. Maccoppi went on to coach the Primavera side of Sampdoria and later had spells with Palazzolo and Bellinzona. He served as assistant coach with Cremonese and Spezia. Maccoppi then moved to Switzerland where he worked for La Chaux-de-Fonds, Yverdon, Locarno and Sion and following a spell with Ceahlaul in Romania, he returned to Italy to join Pro Piacenza.
