Late goals sink St. Andrews

Qormi scored twice in the final ten minutes to defeat St. Andrews 2-0 at the Hibernians Stadium on Saturday. Mario Muscat’s side therefore abandons the bottom spot to close in on Senglea Athletic, St. Andrews and Tarxien. The Saints now lie five points ahead of Qormi.

This was the third win in five matches for Qormi while for St. Andrews, this was the fourth defeat in five matches.

The game seemed heading for a draw but Qormi had other thoughts and took the lead on the 80th thanks to substitute Tensior Gusman who headed the ball home following a cross by Jordi Lokando.

Six minutes in added time, with the Saints all out, including the goalkeeper, in search of the equaliser, Qormi doubled the score thanks to Freud Gnindokponou who concluded a great run in a swift counter-attack by placing the goal inside the empty net.
