BOV Division 1: Gudja move a step closer to promotion

Gudja United maintain the challenge for promotion to the Premier League as they defeated Qrendi 2-0 at the Victor Tedesco Stadium in one of the four matches from the BOV First Division in programme on Saturday.

Dhonatan Santos da Hora opened the score on the 27th and Raphael Kooh Sohna sealed the issue with a second goal in added time.

In another match at the Victor Tedesco Stadium, Vittoriosa Stars and Lija Athletic shared the spoils in a 1-1 draw. Joseph Jojo Ogunnupe put Vittoriosa ahead on the 2nd minute but deep into stoppage time, Carl Cassar levelled matters for Lija.

Mqabba collected another three precious points as they defeated Santa Lucia 3-2. This was the fifth consecutive win for Mqabba which puts them in sixth place. Kevin Ante Rosero out Santa Lucia ahead on the 3rd minute but Alexsandro Ferreira equalised on the 63rd and Gianfranco Micallef made it 2-1 on the 78th. Patrick Jean Texeira Maia levelled matters for Santa Lucia on the 85th. However Alexsandro Ferreira scored again for Mqabba to make it 3-2.

In another match at the Centenary Stadium, Swieqi United found no difficulty in beating Marsa 5-0 courtesy of Lesley Cassar Jackson on the 17th, Luka Covic on the 41st, Kenneth Ekezie on the 50th, a Kristian Sultana penalty on the 62nd and Nicholas Schembri three minutes from time.

Sirens lead the way on 46 points, followed by Gudja on 42, Santa Lucia 35, Pembroke and Swieqi 29, Mqabba 28, Naxxar and Lija 27, Vittoriosa 26, Zebbug 24, Zejtun 23, San Gwann 19, Qrendi 17 and Marsa 5.
