The Malta Under-21 side defeated Turkmenistan 2-1 in a friendly match at the WOW Football Centre in Antalya, Turkey on Friday.
Malta started well and created the best chances during the first half. In the second half, the Maltese kept their composure and were only punished temporarily with the opponents’ leveller from a dubious penalty before Aidan Friggieri’s great goal just before the hour mark.
Malta opened the score on 27 minutes when off an Aidan Friggieri corner from the left, Zachary Brincat hit home in the bottom corner.
Four minutes into the second half, Turkmenistan levelled matters thanks to a controversial penalty, converted by Myrat Rahman.
However Malta regained the lead on 56 minutes thanks to a great goal by Aidan Friggieri whose curling shot from an acute angle ended in the top corner.
Malta will be in action once again on Tuesday in another friendly match in Antalya, this time against Kosovo.
