Fgura United moved a step closer to promotion to Division 1 following a most comfortable 6-2 win over Kalkara in a match from the BOV Second Division at the Luxol Stadium on Saturday.
Giovanni Galea converted a penalty to put Fgura ahead on the 8th minute, Thomas Grech doubled the score on the 37th and just before half-time, Giovanni Galea increased the lead with another goal. Emmanuel Mbong pulled one back for Kalkara nine minutes in the second half but Fgura extended the lead thanks to Gilbert Martin on the 68th, Abeeb Abiodun Williams on the 72nd and Giovanni Galea on the 78th. Matthew Camilleri converted a penalty four minutes from time to reduce the gap for Kalkara.
In another match, Mgarr United defeated Birzebbuga St. Peter’s 3-0 to move second, two points behind Fgura and one ahead of St. George’s. Fgura and St. George’s, however, have a game in hand.
Lazar Doric put Mgarr ahead on the 1st minute, Jamie Lee Micallef doubled the score on the 26th and Doric added another on the 67th to seal the issue.
Fgura lead the way with 47 points, followed by Mgarr on 45, St. George’s 44, Marsaxlokk and Birzebbuga 40, Melita 33, Rabat 28, Kalkara 20, Zabbar and Mellieha 19, Sta. Venera and Luqa 16 and Siggiewi 13.
