Sliema return to winning ways

Sliema Wanderers returned to winning ways as they defeated Qormi by the odd goal in five at the Victor Tedesco Stadium on Friday.

A win which revives the Wanderers’ hopes of securing a UEFA Europa League spot. On the other hand, Qormi suffer a third consecutive defeat which leaves them second from bottom, five points behind St. Andrews, who have a game in hand.

Wellington de Oliveira put Qormi ahead on the 11th minute with a fine rising shot from outside the area.

Five minutes later, Sliema levelled matters when Mark Scerri served
Matias Muchardi in style and the latter beat Cassar from close range.

On the 22nd minute, Jonathan Pearson put Sliema ahead with a powerful shot from outside the area.

However Davide Mansi restored equilibrium one minute from the end of the first half when he headed the ball home past Timothy Aquilina following a corner by Manolito Micallef from the left.

Alex Muscat notched the winner on the 62nd minute, slotting the ball past Cassar when served inside the area.
