Wemmer brace hands ten-man Tarxien comfortable win

German defender Jens Wemmer scored twice as ten-man Tarxien Rainbows defeated Pietà Hotspurs 2-0 at the National Stadium on Saturday.

A win which puts the Rainbows a step closer to securing the Premier League status as they move eight points clear of the play-off spot. On the other hand, the Hotspurs remain anchored at the bottom of the table together with Qormi.

Tarxien had three changes from the team which lost to Balzan as Andrea Cassar was back in goal while Destin Mambouana and Siraj Arab Eddin replaced Marco Botta and Ricardinho. On the other hand, for Pietà, James Scicluna replaced the suspended Jan Busuttil.

After just eight minutes, Tarxien were reduced to ten men after Matthew Tabone was sent off by referee Philip Agius for denying an obvious goal-scoring opportunity.

However on the 28th minute, a powerful drive by Jens Wemmer put Tarxien ahead.

The Rainbows doubled the score on the 68th minute when off a Jacson de Paixao corner from the left, Jens Wemmer headed home in style.
