BOV Division 2: Fgura United, St. George’s promoted

St. George’s and Fgura United will be playing in Division 1 next season after the two teams finished their commitments on top the BOV Second Division table on Saturday. Since both sides ended their commitments on level points, a championship decider is necessary and this is scheduled for Friday 26 at the Centenary Stadium, kick-off at 19:00.

At the Victor Tedesco Stadium, Fgura United defeated Sta. Venera Lightnings 4-0. For Sta. Venera, this defeat condemned them to playing in Division 3 next season. Thomas Grech put Fgura ahead on the 11th minute and six minutes later, Shawn Borg doubled the score. Abeeb Abiodun Williams made it 3-0 and Giovanni Galea sealed the issue with a fourth goal.

At the Luxol Stadium, St. George’s beat Birzebbuga St. Peter’s 2-0. Anthony Ewurum opened the score on the 5th minute and Dylan Sammut doubled the score on the 71st.

Meanwhile Mgarr United have to settle for the BOV First Division Play-Off spot after finishing third following a 2-1 win over Kalkara at the Sirens Stadium. Lazar Doric put Mgarr ahead on the 15th minute. Emmanuel Mbong equalised for Kalkara five minutes from time but Doric notched the winner in added time.

Luqa St. Andrew’s secured their status after holding Zabbar St. Patrick in a goalless draw at the Victor Tedesco Stadium. Zabbar St. Patrick finish third from bottom and will therefore take part in the BOV Second Division Play-Off against Msida St. Joseph.

Marsaxlokk came from behind to beat Melita 3-1 at the Sirens Stadium Luke Mifsud put Melita ahead on the 55th but Timmy Thomas equalised on the 63rd. Alan Tabone made it 2-1 on the 88th and Ronnie Celeste sealed the issue with a third goal on the 90th.

Rabat Ajax defeated Mellieha 3-0 at the Luxol Stadium thanks to an Immy Micallef penalty on the 73rd and a brace by Larens Vella on the 76th and 78th.

Fgura and St. George’s end their commitments on 53 points, followed by Mgarr on 51, Marsaxlokk 47, Birzebbuga 43, Melita 39, Rabat 37, Kalkara 23, Mellieha 22, Luqa 21, Zabbar 20, Sta. Venera 16 and Siggiewi 13.
