BOV Division 1: Qrendi move fourth from bottom

Qrendi maintained alive hopes of avoiding relegation as they scored twice mid-way through the second half to defeat Zebbug Rangers 2-0 at the Victor Tedesco Stadium in one of the four BOV First Division matches in programme on Monday. This win leaves Vittoriosa temporarily third from bottom and hence in the BOV First Division Play-Off spot.

Joao Pedro da Silva Vargas opened the score on the 73rd minute and Ciro Quaranta doubled the score as he converted a penalty five minutes later.

San Gwann registered a 2-1 win over Gudja United at the Centenary Stadium. Shalon Diacono put Gudja ahead on the 33rd minute but three minutes later, Renan de Oliveira equalised and Sergio Hili notched the winner on the 65th.

At the Victor Tedesco Stadium, Pembroke Athleta and Mqabba shared the spoils in a 1-1 draw. Julio Cesar de Souza Martins put Mqabba ahead on the 11th minute but Jean Pierre Mifsud Triganza equalised on the 65th.

In another match at the Centenary Stadium, Lija Athletic and Zejtun Corinthians earned a point each in a 2-2 draw. Adrian Carabott put Zejtun ahead on the 31st minute but Erjon Beu equalised on the 63rd. Jose Vitor Antonio Meira restored the lead for Zejtun six minutes from time but Ryan Sammut equalised four minutes later.

Sirens lead the way on 56 points, followed by Gudja on 49, Santa Lucia 45, Naxxar 42, Pembroke 39, Zebbug 36, Lija 35, Swieqi 34, Zejtun and Mqabba 32, Qrendi 29, Vittoriosa 28, San Gwann 22 and Marsa 5.
