Hibernians survive early scare to register first win

Hibernians came back from a goal down to beat neighbours Tarxien Rainbows 4-1 at the Centenary Stadium on Wednesday.

The Paolites therefore registered their first win after the draw with Gudja United in the opening game while for Tarxien, this was the second consecutive defeat – another defeat in which they conceded four goals.

Hibs had one change from the team which drew with Gudja as Gabi Izquier replaced Bjorn Kristensen. On the other hand, Marko Glumac made two changes as Marco Botta and Jairo Andres Tenorio Viveros were named in the starting line-up with Brandon Muscat and Miguel Ciantar being included as substitutes.

The Rainbows took the lead on the 13th minute thanks to Aleksa Andrejic who hit home off a cross by Jairo Andres Tenorio Viveros from the right.

Hibernians equalised on the 24th minute thanks to Leonardo Nanni whose curling shot beat goalkeeper Rudy Briffa.

Four minutes from the end of the first half, Terrence Groothusen put the Paolites ahead for the first time with a header off a cross by Jake Grech.

Leonardo Nanni increased the lead five minutes in the second half after receiving a through pass by Jake Grech, lobbing the ball over the goalkeeper.

Joseph Mbong made it 4-1 on the 73rd minute when he received an assist by Jake Grech and rounded the goalkeeper before placing the ball at the back of the net.
